Town & Country Markets
Exploring food traditions and family ties for an independently owned chain of grocery stores.
FEATURE ARTICLE
Since November 2025, I’ve been an embedded part of the creative team at Town & Country Markets, a family-owned chain of high-end grocery stores in the Puget Sound region, working across email, web content, ads, product copy for the company’s in-house brand, naming, and store signage.
As part of T&C’s month-long celebration of Lunar New Year, I was tasked with interviewing Hsiao-Ching Chou and Meilee Riddle, authors of Feasts of Good Fortune, for an article that would accompany a video of the mother-daughter duo shopping at T&C and preparing food from their cookbook. This assignment was a genuine pleasure: the video shoot was a blast (not to mention tasty, thanks to the cooking demo), and Hsiao-Ching and Meilee’s relationship to food, to family tradition, and to each other was truly moving. I wanted to do justice to their story; it was important to me that the finished piece feel like a feature article, not like a bland corporate blog post or an airline magazine advertorial. That meant interviewing Hsiao-Ching and Meilee in between takes in order to capture additional insights not covered during the video shoot, letting them speak in their own words, and crafting a piece with a genuine narrative arc. When given latitude, I aim to write something real, not just filler content.
